Hotbed of human life science technology

The cluster organization Human.technology Styria GmbH follows the idea "smart specialisation" and has developed three “strategic corridors": "pharmaceutical engineering and production processes", "advanced biomedical sensor technologies and biomechanics" and "biobanking and biomarker technologies". In only a few years, the cluster has managed to make a name for itself as a global player and for Styria as the location for highly advanced engineering and life sciences.

Regarding Styria’s process for "smart specialisation" in human-technology, the cluster’s Managing Director Robert Gfrerer said: "Together with our cluster partners from academia, business and politics, we have been able to successfully develop new milestones from now until 2015.” The landscape of the cluster’s future has been explored and similar to the process of developing a map, the journey for Human.technology Styria has been laid out until 2015. The three main routes, or "strategic corridors”, for the Styrian clusters are:

- 01 - Pharmaceutical engineering and production processes

- 02 - Advanced biomedical sensor technologies & biomechanics

- 03 - Biobanking & biomarker technologies
