Organized by BIOTECH AUSTRIA, the association of the Austrian biotech industry, as well as the local organizations Standortagentur Tirol and the Styrian life science cluster organization Human.technology Styria, the conference offered industry leaders, innovators and investors a lively platform for exchanging ideas, building partnerships and driving innovation in biotechnology.
Peter Llewellyn-Davies, President of BIOTECH AUSTRIA (BTA), commented on the success of the event: “The Summit has consolidated its position as an important platform for the growing biotech sector in Austria. The high number of participants and the lively participation this year exceeded our expectations and underline the increasing importance of collaboration and innovation, which are essential for the further development of the industry. I would also like to thank our co-hosts and industry leaders in Innsbruck such as BTA board member Gregor Wick, whose contribution at a regional level was of great value.”
Keynotes and impulse speeches by global thought leaders and successful Austrian biotech entrepreneurs and scientists such as Patrick Trojer (TRIANA Biomedicines), Nicole Schlautmann (MSD Austria), Joseph Penninger (Helmholtz Center for Infection Research), Alexander von Gabain (Valneva) and Severin Schwan (Roche) attracted great interest from the audience with their insights on successfully founding a biotech company, financing strategies and the groundbreaking innovations and scientific findings that are driving the sector forward. Panel discussions addressed pressing industry concerns such as the latest trends in biotechnology, financing opportunities for start-ups and established companies, the role of venture capital in promoting biotech start-ups and strategies for successful exits. High-profile participants included international investors such as MIG Capital or Wellington Partners as well as pharmaceutical giants such as Pfizer and Roche.
Dr. Klaus Weinberger, Managing Director of Health Hub Tirol, commented: “Thanks to its vibrant research environment and strong local biotech community, Innsbruck proved to be an ideal location for this year's conference. We are delighted that together with BIOTECH AUSTRIA and Human.technology Styria we were able to host such a forward-looking and impressive event that enabled productive discussions and new contacts in an inspiring setting."
Beyond the official program, the summit offered numerous networking opportunities, from the Hike & Dine event at Umbrüggler Alm prior to the conference and the networking dinner at Adlers Rooftop Bar overlooking Innsbruck to the 1:1 partnering program and start-up pitches. The well-attended start-up area proved to be a useful place for emerging biotech companies to present their ideas and connect with investors.
This year's BIOTECH SUMMIT AUSTRIA was fully booked two weeks in advance and exceeded expectations with around 250 participants from 13 countries. The next BIOTECH SUMMIT AUSTRIA in 2025 is planned for October 23-24, 2025 in Graz.
Lejla Pock, Managing Director of Human.technology Styria, added: “Given the success of this year's event and the positive feedback, we are already looking forward to continuing the exchange and driving innovation in biotechnology even further with the Summit's return to Graz and its dynamic biotech community in 2025."
