EUkraineCoop Peer Review Meeting in Budapest

Progress for telemedicine in Ukraine: The first peer review meeting of the EU-funded EUkraineCoop project took place in Budapest on June 11 and 12, 2025. The event marked an important milestone for the project, which aims to support the Ukrainian healthcare system through international cooperation in the field of telemedicine.

EUkraineCoop is a two-year initiative launched in February 2025. It brings together cluster organizations and healthcare stakeholders in Ukraine, Austria, Hungary, and Poland. The project aims to strengthen healthcare in Ukraine—particularly through digital and decentralized solutions—while promoting sustainable economic cooperation with European partner regions.

The peer review meeting, organized in cooperation with EIT Health Hungary, served to evaluate the project's strategic direction, identify potential partnerships with regional organizations, and discuss specific challenges facing Ukrainian hospitals. In addition to the on-site participants, representatives from several EU and Ukrainian institutions also participated online.

Special thanks go to EIT Health for their active support in the organization and for providing technical expertise.

The international expert group was composed as follows:

  • Zsolt Bubori, Ecosystem Lead, EIT Health Hungary
  • Gyula Király, Co-Chairman, Mediklaszter; Strategic Director, Hospitality
  • Wolfgang Kratky, Telmed Austria; Geriatric Health Center Graz
  • Andriy Hyrak, Rivne City Hospital, Ukraine
  • Dawid Nidzworski, Institute of Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine, Poland
  • Tadeusz Jędrzejczyk, European Public Health Alliance

The first results of the meeting include:

  • Planning telemedicine training and study visits in EU regions
  • Establishment of a matchmaking database to record relevant EU competencies and to link needs and offers
  • Survey of specific challenges facing Ukrainian healthcare institutions

In Austria, the project is coordinated by Human.technology Styria (HTS). The cluster has over 150 members from science, business, and clinical practice and promotes knowledge exchange and the implementation of joint innovation projects in the healthcare sector.
