HEALTH AND SUSTAINABILITY

Recycling
in the healthcare system

promote sustainability

In its "Health & Sustainability" strategic direction, Human.technology Styria focuses on the current topic of medical waste in order to promote sustainability in the life sciences sector.

Because the recycling rate for medical waste in Austria is currently still very low. From a circular economy point of view, there is clearly room for improvement.

More than 90 percent of medical waste is incinerated in incinerators, which means that expensive and valuable raw materials are lost. Around two thirds of the around 890 tons of hazardous waste generated in Austria's medical facilities each year are incinerated and the rest is exported.

The goal: circular solutions

The aim of the project "Circular Economy in Health Care" is to develop circular solutions for the health sector and to implement them in pilot projects.

Cooperation partner of the project is the next incubator, who has excellent contacts to experts in the circular economy.

Healthcare institutions, HTS cluster partners, experts from the circular economy and innovative startups/solution providers will take part in the project.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project "Circular Economy in Healthcare" aims to preserve the lifespan and value of products and their components for as long as possible and thereby generate ecological and economic added value.

Human.technology Styria and Next-Incubator have recognized the need and the potential to identify and initiate future paths in the field of circular economy for healthcare facilities. For this reason, one workshop series initiated and implemented on circular economy in the health sector.
