Hands-on with innovative AR / VR solutions as part of the "Medicine meets technology" event series

3 years after the first "Medicine meets Technology - Smart Reality", the Styrian Human Technology Cluster, together with the Medical University of Graz, the Steiermärkische Krankenanstaltengesellschaft m. b. H. and the Silicon Alps Cluster were again inviting to the same topic in the premises of the new Med-Campus in the east of Graz. Caroline Schober, Vice Rector for Research and International Affairs at the Medical University of Graz, and Johann Harer, Managing Director of Human.technology Styria opened the event. Pascal Mülner, Business Development Digitization at Human.technology Styria, hosted the evening.

Smart Reality at your fingertips

After short keynote speeches by the 6 exhibitors from business and industry, the participants of the event had the exclusive opportunity to try out the VR / AR solutions at the stands. In addition to the research facilities Joanneum Research, Know-Center and the FH-Joanneum, the companies Augmentomy, Mindconsole and Golem Digital gave an insight into their innovative technologies.

Premiere and repeat offender

For the Augmentomy team it was even the first event at which they could present their project. Repeat offenders Joanneum Research showed not only AR training for dementia but also other innovative systems such as VR4Care (mindfulness training for the cognitive reserve) and MIRA (eye-based serious game) for the care and support of older people. These applications can also be viewed in detail in the Human Factors Lab of Joanneum Research Digital in Steyrergasse in Graz. In addition to VR from 360 ° recordings, virtual 3D environments and mixed reality to multi-user applications, Golem Digital presented pediatric neurorehabilitation using VR from augmentIT. This system from Netcetera is intended to motivate children to improve their gait activity through individual playful therapy options. The internationally active company Mindconsole showed us what innovations they have developed since our joint event in their premises in Wielandgasse last year. In addition to the projects for emergency organizations (U5 in Berlin) and disaster control (forest fire in Australia), one could discover the diverse possibilities for training and education purposes. In addition to the tele-rehabilitation project TRIMOTEP and the immersive co-creation hub project ICON, the FH-Joanneum also presented the early detection of neurocognitive deficits in the SCOBES-AR project. The Know-Center let us immerse ourselves in the world of digital twins and showed us how (real-time) data can be analyzed with immersive technologies.

Know-how transfer

Next year we will bring technicians and medical professionals together again in the Neue Stiftingtalstrasse. Be there when the motto is again: Medicine meets technology!
